Football fans from around the world will be gathering from all over Europe in the hopes to see their team bring home the trophy in the Euros 2024. While the focus of fans is on the pitch, behind the scenes, specialist door solutions are employed to keep the crowds safe. So, we thought we would share our work at Europa-Park Football Stadium!

The brief.

With a capacity of 34,700, different areas of the stadium required very different demands on doors: high quality, architecturally styled, reliable door solutions with panic escape functions, fire and smoke protection alongside hygienic stainless-steel doors for entries into food preparation areas. Enter Teckentrup!

The largest project in the history of SC Freiburg, the Europa-Park Stadium replaced the legendary Dreisam Stadium. The stadium features diagonal tensile supports for the roof running all around the outside creating a distinctive character even from a distance. We knew alongside compliant doors, they needed to match the architectural grandeur of the stadiums design. Our contemporary and sleek 62 modular steel doorsets were a perfect fit.

Hinged doors with the dimensions of an industrial door also leave room for large equipment and serve as an escape route at the same time.

The solution.

Teckentrup supplied over 250 doors across a wide range of requirements. From exterior use fire doors (EI230 to EI290, classified according to product standard EN 16034 / EN 14351-1) to dw 62 security doors (up to RC 3), the Teckentrup modular system allowed doors to be adapted to suit each individual areas of the stadium without compromising on aesthetic appeal.

In the technical areas, large doors were required as a passage for bulky equipment and even vehicles. To ensure that security of these areas was considered, the EI230 doors were equipped with burglary protection (RC2/RC3) and full panic function as well as provision for SALTO fitting or Magic Eye fitting, depending on the place of use.

Making it easier for people with disabilities to visit the stadium was a key concern for SC Freiburg. Barrier-free access via ramps, threshold-free and automatically opening doors as well as suitable wheelchair spaces were planned from the outset. Teckentrup doors in these areas were supplied threshold-free and in some cases with a swing door device, for contactless and fast passage equipped for SALTO or Magic Eye fittings.

Detention rooms in the stadium feature the Teckentrup prison door as dw 62-1 (partly with special glazing) designed to be extremely robust against mechanical impacts, locked quickly by means of a knob, protected against sudden opening and equipped with a quick-release lock and a sliding bolt, so that the cell can be locked again as quickly as possible in the event of an escape attempt.

Different areas of the stadium place very different demands on doors: from the fire door for exterior use (EI230 to EI290, classified according to product standard EN 16034 / EN 14351-1) to the dw 62 security door (up to RC 3).
In the technical area, for example, large doors were required as a passage for large equipment and vehicles. In addition, the EI230 doors are equipped with burglary protection (RC2/RC3) and full panic function.
Doors along escape routes must always be operable, even if the doors are locked. Panic bar handles offer a safe solution here, as they automatically unlock when physical pressure is applied to the door element.

Personal highlight of the project was, of course, the stadium tour with which we successfully concluded the project.”

Unfortunately, anyone who spends their stadium visit behind one of these doors misses out on the game. The flush installation prevents injuries on both sides. Glazed cut-outs with privacy seals serve to observe the occupant if necessary.
